Southern Arizona Greyhound Adoption early on began taking in injured hounds. One of the risks of the racing greyhounds is of serious injury. A bump, a crash, and a broken leg can mean a death sentence to the poor dog.
When the first injured hound came off the track, Basco (short for his racing name Tobasco) broke the hearts of the SA Greys group. A fundraising effort was undertaken to offset the nearly $5,000 vet bills for surgery and care to set and allow his leg to heal.
This evolved into an ongoing program to raise funds for injured hounds, called “Jackie’s Fund“, it was a targeted effort that delivered the funding.
